The story begins with King Mahabali, the grandson of the renowned devotee Prahlad, who was blessed by Lord Vishnu during the Narasimha avatar. King Mahabali was a kind and righteous king who was known for fulfilling the desires of his subjects. He had declared that he would grant any wish asked of him. Witnessing this, Lord Vishnu took the form of Vamana, a diminutive Brahmin boy (a midget), and requested a modest gift: three paces of land. Confident in his own power, Mahabali agreed without hesitation. The agreement required Vamana to pour water over Mahabali's hands as a gesture of commitment.
